High-speed internet coverage across Canada
The CRTC has set a target of reaching 98% of Canadian households with a minimum of 50/10 unlimited high-speed broadband by the end of 2026 and 100% by 2031. Canadian providers reached the CRTC’s previous goal of reaching 90% of households by the end of 2021, finishing the year at 91.4% coverage across Canada.
As of December 2023, 94.8% of Canadian households had access to 50/10 unlimited service or greater. But there is more work to be done, especially in underserved communities like rural areas, Northern communities, and First Nations reserve areas.
In addition to their direct investments, Canada’s high-speed internet network operators are partnering with various governments to bring high-speed internet to these underserved communities. Access to 50/10 unlimited high-speed broadband in rural areas has increased by over 65% between 2018 and 2022 (40.7% to 67.4%).
